Police Patch

Police Reform

I support the recently introduced “George Floyd Law Enforcement Trust and Integrity Act” and its effort to create better bonds and relationships between police departments and the communities they serve. It correctly supports the recently passed “Justice in Policing Act of 2020” which specifically aims to:
  1. Hold law enforcement accountable for misconduct in court

  2. Improve transparency through data collection

  3. Reform police training and policies

  4. Establish a federal registry of police misconduct complaints and disciplinary actions

  5. Require federal uniformed police officers to have body-worn cameras

  6. Require marked federal police vehicles be equipped with dashboard cameras

  7. Require state and local law enforcement agencies that receive federal funding to adopt anti-discrimination policies and training programs, including those targeted at fighting racial profiling

  8. Prohibiting no-knock warrant

  9. Prohibit federal police officers from using chokeholds or other carotid holds, and require state and local law enforcement agencies that receive federal funding to adopt the same prohibition.
